Columbus, OH - The Richmond Braves fell to the Columbus Clippers 5-3 at Cooper Stadium Thursday. Top prospect Anthony Lerew pitched lights out but Sean Henn matched him to keep the game tied through seven innings.

Columbus jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Mitch Jones came through with an RBI single, which plated Melky Cabrera. Richmond tied the score in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Andy Marte. Columbus loaded the bases in the eighth and Melky Cabrera hit a grand slam off of Macay McBride to stake the Clippers to a 5-1 lead. The Braves fought back as John Barnes hit a two-run homer in the ninth, but Sam Marsonek was able to recover and record the final two outs to give the Clippers a 5-3 victory.

Despite excellent outings from starters Lerew and Henn, each player received a no decision. Lerew allowed two hits and one run in seven innings. Henn allowed five hits and one run over seven and a third innings. Melky Cabrera was the star for Columbus going 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and a stolen base. Cabrera's grand slam was only the second home run the Braves have allowed in their last 14 games. Jason Bourgeois was the only Brave to have a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 and adding a stolen base.

The Braves and Columbus battle again tonight at 7:05 PM. Sam McConnell will pitch for the Braves against the Clippers Aaron Small. Richmond returns home July 4 and 5 vs. the Clippers. The game on the Fourth is sold out. Tickets still remain at press box level and in general admission for the July 5 game.
