Omaha Lancers News Release
Four power play goals, including three from Aaron Palushaj, spelled doom for the Lancers against the Des Moines Buccaneers for the second straight meeting on Tuesday, October 17th, this time at the Mid America Center.
The Lancers had hoped to extract some revenge for a 4-0 defeat in Des Moines on Saturday, October 14th, but Palushaj took matters into his hands quickly in the first period. After a Lancer penalty in the first 30 seconds of the game, Palushaj found the back of the net at 1:22 for a 1-0 Des Moines lead.
In the second period, Buccaneer Matt Read converted a Lancer penalty into a power play goal 1:31 into the frame, followed by Palushaj's second goal of the evening at the 17:11 mark, again on the power play, for a 3-0 second intermission score in favor of Des Moines.
Palushaj tallied again in the third period on the power play for the Bucs' fourth goal of the night, his third, and the final nail in the 4-0 coffin.
Des Moines' four power play goals came on 12 opportunities, while the Lancers finished scoreless in nine power play chances.
The Buccaneers out shot the Lancers by a 34-27 margin. Matt Dalton (4-0-0) fashioned his second straight shutout of the Lancers with a 27 save performance. Scott Gudmandson (1-2-1) made 30 saves in a losing goalie effort for the Lancers.
Friday night, the Lancers meet the Tri-City Storm in the team's final home game of October. Saturday, Omaha meets the Black Hawks in Waterloo in the Lancers' first game against an East Division opponent this season.
