Bucs Make Roster Moves

February 7, 2007 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Urbandale, Iowa --- The Des Moines Buccaneers announced today that they have acquired to the rights to goalie Jordan Tibbett from the Omaha Lancers, while trading the rights of goalie Stephan Ritter to the Texas Tornados of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Additionally, the Buccaneers also released forward Gio Capodanno from their roster. All three transactions took place last evening before the United States Hockey League's February 6 trade deadline.

Tibbett, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, had 5 wins, 4 losses and 1 over-time loss for the Lancers this season. In ten games, he posted a goals against average of 3.44 and a save percentage of .871.

"There were two reasons for the trades," said Buccaneers head coach and general manager Regg Simon. "One, Stephan is in his last year of junior hockey and we felt it was in his best interest to get him to a place he could play more games so he can earn a scholarship."

"Second, it was also an opportunity to get a goalie to build around in the future. If Jordan develops the way we think he can, he has the ability to be an outstanding goalie."

The release of Capodanno came so that the Buccaneers have a roster spot to bring in another prospect at the end of the season.

"Gio did an outstanding job for us while he was here," added coach Simon. "He's a very fine young man, and again, this was done so that he'd have a chance to go to a place where he'd get more playing time."

Coach Simon will be looking to add one more player before the February 10 roster freeze.

"We'll have to see who is available before we make that move," he said. "We'll want him to be a good fit for our team now, while also making sure he'll be a solid member of our team next season."
