Bucs Fall to Waterloo
March 29, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Des Moines applied pressure each period but was unable to get anything past Waterloo's goalie and fell by a final of 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Waterloo wasted little time getting on the board as Nick Swaney picked up an unassisted goal at the 8:41 mark of the period when he took a shot from the right side faceoff circle and it hit the pads of Nick MacNab before it skipped up and over the goaltender and into the net. Waterloo then capitalized when defenseman Jake Ryczek stickhandled through a few players and his shot left a rebound to MacNab's left that was put home by Zach Yon 13:32 into the first. Des Moines outshot Waterloo 13 to 11 in the first twenty minutes but couldn't get anything past Garrett Metcalf.
The second period was more of the same as again Waterloo opened the period with an unassisted goal. Ryan Lohin took a fortunate bounce off of a linesman along the right wing board and went in on MacNab unimpeded beating MacNab with a low wrister at the 5:41 mark. The goal would chase MacNab and Jan Ruzicka would come in in relief. He would be beaten early in his appearance however as Waterloo would add a power play goal from Zach Yon, his second of the game, 7:06 into the second period. MacNab made 3 saves in the period before being pulled and Ruzicka made 6 saves in the 2nd. Waterloo had the edge in the shots on goal department 12 to 10 in the second.
Des Moines again put double digit shots on Metcalf in the third period but he stopped all 10 shots he saw. The only goal of the period came off the stick of Sam McCormick at the 11:54 mark of the third. Garrett Metcalf ended the evening with a 33 save shutout while Des Molines goaltenders Nick MacNab (13) and Jan Ruzicka (16) combined for 29 saves in the loss.
Up next for the Buccaneers is a home contest with the Sioux Fall Stampede on Friday, April 1st.
