Tri-City Storm News Release

Kearney, Neb. - Carson Meyer netted his first hat trick, Dan Labosky tied a career best with four points and the Tri-City Storm clinched a spot in the 2016 Clark Cup Playoffs, throttling the Sioux City Musketeers, 6-2, Tuesday at the Viaero Center.

The home crowd, frenzied by Meyer's hat trick, watched the Storm score six of the last seven goals. Tri-City forced Sioux City starter David Fessenden out of the contest early in the second.

The win gives Tri-City 69 points, two ahead of Lincoln for first in the conference entering the final four games.

Meyer's trick gives him a team-leading 30 goals, the seventh time a Storm player has reached the 30-goal plateau.

Meanwhile, Labosky's second career four-point game spurted the 20-year-old forward to 95 career points, tied for sixth most by a Tri-City player.

Jake Kielly was calming in net, earning his 20th win with 20 saves.

Meyer's production started on his first shot. With the Storm down, 1-0, Dan Labosky crossed a pass from the right wall to the left post. At 11:15 of the first, Meyer stood tall in the dirty area for a stuff. Andrew Peski took the second assist.

Three minutes later, the 20-year-old playmaker Labosky delivered a one-time feed to John Marino, who warped a slapper through Fessenden's five-hole. Marino has goals in consecutive games. Tory Dello earned the second assist.

Meyer scored two goals in the second for the hat trick. Both goals came within 20 feet of cage. At 4:08, he sniped his second goal off a left-slot feed from Jake Wahlin. Head Coach Jay Varady pulled Fessenden out of the game for Cam Gornet after Meyer's rip. Fessenden finished with nine saves and Gornet had 24 stops.

With time winding down in the second, Meyer cleaned up a left post wraparound from Nico Sturm at 18:22. Dozens of hats flew onto the ice as the Miami University commit ran to hug his teammates.

Wade Allison and Carson Meyer have the Storm's two hat tricks this season.

Sioux City's Conner Valesano scored 25 seconds later to cut the margin to 4-2.

Meyer starred in the second, but Labosky dominated the third with a pair of goals. At 3:57, Alex Limoges and Wade Allison set up a slot shot that bested Gornet. Labosky scored on the man up at 7:39 with Jacob Wilson ejected after a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking plus a game misconduct.

The win gives the Storm a 20-10-5-3 record against the Western Conference, the best among its conference peers.

Friday is Get Active Night, with a Free Kids Friday, postgame skate and a special "Dash For Cash" in the first intermission, presented by NebraskaLand Bank. During the intermission, three contestants have 30 seconds to grab as much paper money as they can, with $250 up for grabs.
