Bucks Snap Losing Streak

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Arizona Sundogs 5-3 Tuesday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The Bucks snapped their four-game losing streak as they improve to 15-21-6 (36 points).

The Bucks pull to within one point of Rio Grande Valley for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference and are just three points behind Arizona for seventh place with two games in hand over both the Killer Bees and Sundogs.

Jeff Hazelwood scored two goals while Torrie Jung stopped 38 of 41 shots he faced as the Bucks improve to 12-1-1 when they score four or more goals this season.

The Sundogs (17-22-5) would strike first as they took a 1-0 lead just 6:10 into the first period when Cam Keith buried a backhander in front of the net on the power-play. The goal was Keith's 12th of the season.

The Bucks would battle back and score two goals in the final five minutes of the first to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Jarred Mohr tied the game at 1-1 with 4:49 left in the first when he scored from the right circle with the Bucks on a power-play. The strike was Mohr's fifth of the season.

Laredo would take a 2-1 lead with just 19 seconds left in the first period when Neil Trimm scored on a one-timer from the left circle after a cross ice pass from Ryan Lehr. The goal was Trimm's 15th of the season and his second in as many games. Adam Rivet also picked up an assist on Trimm's goal tying him with James Hiebert for fourth all-time in Bucks history with 228 points.

Arizona outshot Laredo 10-9 in the first period.

The Bucks would jump out to a 3-1 lead just 55 seconds into the second period when Hazelwood stuffed in a rebound on the left side of the crease to net his ninth of the year.

Arizona would cut the Laredo lead to 3-2 at the 4:06 mark of the second when Joel Irving took a pass from Joey Sides on a two-on-one break and stuffed in a shot from the right side of the crease. The goal was Irving's second of the season.

The Sundogs would then benefit from a seven-minute power-play early in the second period and would strike in the first two minutes of it to tie the game at 3-3. Luke Erickson scored on a rebound in front of the net to score his league-leading 28 of the season to tie the contest.

The Bucks would then kill off the final five minutes of the Sundogs power-play to keep the game tied.

Laredo would take a 4-3 lead with 7:18 left in the second period when Jeff Bes scored from the slot with the Bucks on a power-play. The strike was Bes' 15 of the campaign and the Bucks' second power-play strike of the night.

Laredo outshot Arizona 14-13 in the second period.

Hazelwood put the Bucks up 5-3 with just 2:58 left when he scored his second of the night on a beautiful move in front of the net to tally his 10th of the year.

The Bucks were outshot 18-3 in the third period and were outshot 41-26 in the contest.

The Bucks played with 14 skaters Tuesday night as the team's leading goal scorer Daniel Koger and Brian Matte both sat out with injuries. Koger's status for Wednesday's game is not yet known while Matte will not be available for the rest of the road trip.

The Bucks and Sundogs will meet again Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center. Game time is 8:05pm.

The Bucks will hold a road watch party on Wednesday (Feb. 2nd) at Hal's Landing when the Bucks are in Arizona at 8:05pm.

The party will start at 7:45pm and Hal's will show the game on a big screen as well as offer happy hour drink specials. Bucks staff members will be on hand to give out special prizes.
