Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Unable to snap their four-game losing streak and earn the win in Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro's 300th game, the Arizona Sundogs fell to the Laredo Bucks, 5-3, Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center.

Laredo snapped a four-game slide of its own with the victory.

Skating in their fourth game in five days, the Sundogs dropped just their fifth regulation loss of the season when scoring first as Cam Keith staked his club to a 1-0 advantage just over six minutes into the contest with a man advantage tally.

Recording his team-leading 11th power-play goal of the season, Keith lifted a backhand over Torrie Jung at the right post at the game's 6:10 mark but Laredo responded with a pair of goals in the second half of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Each of Laredo's first-period goals came on rink-wide passes, crossing up the Sundogs defense.

Jarred Mohr tied the game at one at 15:21, converting on his club's lone first-period power play chance. Stationed at the near dot, Mohr collected a Neil Trimm pass through the slot and beat Levente Szuper as the netminder got caught in traffic moving post to post.

Trimm netted his second point of the contest and 15th goal of the season with 18 seconds remaining in the opening frame, one-timing a shot past Szuper after Ryan Lehr quickly changed the play's direction from inside the blue line.

Jeff Hazelwood stretched Laredo's lead to 3-1 less than a minute into the second period, converting on a rebound after a Ryan Bennett shot found the near post but Joel Irving cut the score to 3-2 at 4:06, tapping a Joey Sides centering pass into the back of the net as the two rushed up the ice 2-on-1. Kyle Hood also assisted on the play, chipping the puck up the far sideboards before Sides wrapped a pass around the Laredo defenseman.

Hood collected his second assist of the game three minutes later with the Sundogs on a seven-minute power play after Hans Benson was whistled for a total of 27 penalty minutes. Settling a Billy Bezeau shot from the point that Jung steered clear of the crease, Hood connected with Luke Erickson in the slot for the forward's league-leading 28th goal of the season, tying the game at three.

Jeff Bes reclaimed a one-goal lead with the Bucks' second man advantage tally of the contest with 7:18 to play in the middle frame, one-timing an effort from the high slot past the blocker of Szuper.

Hazelwood sealed the win with a 4-on-4 goal, his second of the game, with 2:58 to play, halting any Sundogs comeback attempt.

Each team tallied twice on the man advantage. Arizona finished 2-for-6 with the extra attacker while Laredo converted 50-percent of their power-play chances.

The two teams face off again tomorrow at 7:05pm (Arizona time) in the second of a three-game set at Tim's Toyota Center. Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
