Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WATERLOO-August 13, 2011-The Waterloo Bucks rallied from a 4-0 defecit in the seventh inning to defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks by a score of 6-4.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth, when the Woodchuck offense broke out. Lead-off batter Garrett Yrigoyen struck out swinging but advanced to first after the third strike got away from Buck catcher Collin Keefe. The following batter, Robbie De La Cruz, dropped down a sacrifice bunt, but the throw from Buck starter Jake Powers was wild, allowing De La Cruz to go to second and Yrigoyen to score from first. After a Derek Peterson single, Matt Guida bounced into a double play that scored De La Cruz from third.
With nobody on and two outs, pitchers Ryan Iverson and Gabe Feldman, forced to bat for the Woodchucks tonight, started a rally. Feldman, playing left field, singled to center. Iverson, the designated hitter lined a ball through the right side of the infield on a hit-and-run, putting Feldman on third and Iverson on first. With Carlos Escobar, Jr., at the plate, Iverson intentionally got caught in a run down between first and second, drawing a throw to second base, and Feldman stole home, giving the âChucks a 3-0 lead.
The score remained 3-0 until the top half of the seventh. After Iverson drew a one out walk, he stole second and later scored on a base hit by Austin Coleman.
Woodchuck starter Jonathan Boersma did a great job for the âChucks, handcuffing Waterloo batters the entire night. Boersma pitched six and two-thirds innings and didn't allow a run until the seventh inning. Boersma's final line was six and two-thirds innings, one earned run, one walk, and five strikeouts.
Boersma would receive a no-decision, though, as the Bucks tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth. After a lead-off home run from Cameron Perkins, the Bucks went on to score four more runs an take a 6-4 lead heading into the ninth.
The Woodchucks got a two-out single by Escobar, Jr., but Clay Stephens struck out Regis for the third out, giving the Bucks the 6-4 victory. Stephens got the save, and the win for the Bucks went to Augie Lindmark. The loss for the âChucks went to Jake Long.
The two teams will play the final game of the season tomorrow in Waterloo, with first pitch at 3:05.
