Buck Activated from Disabled List

Metairie, LA – The New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros would like to announce that catcher John Buck has been activated from the disabled list. Catcher Dax Norris was promoted from Class AA Round Rock prior to Thursday's game against Memphis. Pitcher Ken Vining has been released.

Buck, 23 from Salt Lake City, UT., was placed on the disabled list on June 27th with a broken novicular bone in his right hand. He was batting .266 (69x259) with two home runs and 27 RBI in 69 games for the Zephyrs at the time of the injury.

Norris, 30 from La Grange, GA., originally was drafted in the 23rd round by the Atlanta Braves in the 1996 draft out of the University of Alabama. Houston signed him as a free agent in February and he was batting .245 (65x265) with six home runs and 45 RBI for Round Rock in 77 games.

Vining was 3-5 with a 5.20 ERA (37 ER/64.0 IP) for the Zephyrs this season in 41 appearances (six starts).

The Zephyrs defeated the Memphis Redbirds 5 to 2 on Thursday Night and Oklahoma defeated Nashville 9 to 2. The Zephyrs remain tied with Oklahoma for second place in the PCL East Division, 4 ½ games behind Nashville. The series with the Redbirds continues on Friday at 7:05 PM.
