Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Two-time American League All-Star Clay Buchholz fired six-plus solid innings for Omaha, while fellow former All-Stars Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon each clubbed run-scoring sixth-inning doubles to lead the Storm Chasers to a 4-1 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.
Buchholz (6.1 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 3 K) scattered five hits and faced just two batters more than the minimum through his first six frames. At one point he set down seven consecutive hitters between the fourth through sixth innings.
Relievers Brandon Maurer (0.2 IP, BB, K) and Scott Barlow (2.0 IP, K) joined forces for the final 2.2 innings, with Barlow notching the two-inning save. Nashville starter Frankie Montas (5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat to fall to 0-2.
Perez broke the scoreless draw when he smashed a two-run double to left in the sixth. Gordon immediately followed with a two-bagger of his own to plate Perez and extend the advantage to three.
Nashville answered back in the next half frame when 2B Franklin Barreto bashed a solo homer to left in the top of the seventh. Omaha countered with a longball of their own courtesy of C Nick Dini 's solo blast to left, increasing the Storm Chasers lead to 4-1.
Barreto (3-4, R, HR, RBI) was the only batter from either side to record a multi-hit effort. Perez in seven Major League Rehab contests between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas has compiled a .375 average (9-24) with 4 runs, two doubles, two homers and 6 RBI. Gordon, meanwhile, has tallied a .400 mark (2-5) with one run, one double and two RBI in his two games with Omaha.
Omaha and Nashville wrap up their three-game set with a Monday matinee. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. CT. LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (0-1, 1.50) is expected to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with the Sounds slated to send RHP Daniel Gossett (0-0, 0.00).
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
