Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake Bees rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to collect a walk-off win 11-9 over the Albuquerque Isotopes. After allowing four runs and surrendering the lead in the top of the ninth, the Bees offense got the job done, starting with a lead-off homer by Jose Miguel Fernandez to tie the game at 9. David Fletcher followed with a single before Chris Carter came through with the game-winning blast, a towering shot that nearly cleared the batters eye in center field.
"It felt good. I was looking for a pitch I could drive, something up in the zone and he left one over the plate for me," Carter said of his walk-off home run. "I was just hoping it would get over the wall."
The Bees hit a season-high six homers, one shy of the franchise record for round-trippers in a game. Sherman Johnson hit two home runs in the game, becoming the fourth Bees batter to do so during the team's homestand, Michael Hermosillo led off the game with a homer and Jose Briceno hit one just short of the left field concession stand to make up the Bees home run total. Infielder Zach Houchins made team history by becoming the first position player to be credited with a win. Houchins was forced into action after the Bees bullpen ran out of relievers in the ninth inning, the starting third baseman threw two pitches, recording a fly out to center to get the Bees out of the ninth, he also went 1-for-3 with a RBI at the plate.
The Bees will continue their homestand Monday night against the Isotopes at 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark. The club will be honoring the Voice of the Bees, Steve Klauke, on reaching his 3,500thgame called for the Salt Lake PCL franchise by hosting "Steve Klauke Night" at the ballpark. Tickets are available at the Smith's Ballpark box office or online at slbees.com.
