
Buccaneers Select Six in Future's Draft

Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers selected six players as part of the United States Hockey League's annual Future's Draft held on Tuesday night. Only those players with a 1996 birth year were eligible in this season's draft.
The USHL Futures Draft annually consist of players who are going be 16 years of age in eligibilitythe following season and is not to be confused with the annual Entry Draft which will take place May 22nd and include players of all ages. This seasons draft was made up of players with birthdates in 1996.

While it's not unheard of for a player selected in the Future's Draft to make a USHL team that season, the general rule is that those taken in this draft are a year away from making an impact.
The players the Buccaneers' selected on Tuesday will be invited to the team's tryout camp June 14-17 and if not selected for the 2012-2013 team, will be placed on the team's affiliate list for up to three seasons.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are preparing for their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League beginning in the Fall of 2012. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
