Stampede Select Aberdeen Native and Five Others in USHL Futures Draft

Chicago, IL-The Sioux Falls Stampede selected six players in the 2012 USHL Futures Draft. The Herd took Cody Milan with their first pick and Aberdeen, South Dakota native Andrew Blummer with their final selection. All players selected have 1996 birth year and will be placed on the Stampede's affiliate list and remain on the club's list for three years.

With their first pick (9th overall) the Stampede selected forward Cody Milan White Lake, MI. Director of Player Personnel Craig Sarner says he is a grinding right winger with great experience at St. Mary;s Prep in Michigan. His brother is Daniel Milan who currently plays with the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning and was drafted in the USHL by the Des Moines Buccaneers. He recorded 22 points in 28 games with Orchard Lake St. Mary's in Michigan.

In the second round, the Herd selected left wing Mitchell Lundhom of Plymouth, MA. The forward has great size at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. The Plymouth, MA native spent this past season playing at Selects Hockey Academy and a player that the coaching staff feels has good hands and has a good chance to play professional hockey.

With their third pick, Sioux Falls took center Dakota Joshua from Dearborn, MI. The 6-foot, 175-pound forward spent last season with Detroit Honeybaked Minor Midget. He sparked interest from the Stampede coaching staff at the recent USHL Combine in Chicago.

In the fourth round, the Herd selected goaltender Stefanos Lekkas from Elburn, IL. At 5-foot-9, 145-pounds, Lekkas played this past season with the Chicago Mission Minor Midget. Head coach Kevin Hartzell was very impressed with his play at the combine and thinks he is a special talent. His Mission team was one of the best in the country, giving him good talent to face in practice every day.

In round five, the Herd took center Corey Hoffman of Syosset, NY. The Stampede coaching staff was very impressed with his play last weekend and love his potential. The 5-foot-6, 145-pound forward can play center or left wing and spent this past season Long Island Gulls Under-16 squad.

With their final pick of the draft in the sixth round, the Stampede took defenseman Andrew Blummer. Blummer was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota and plays at Fargo South High School. The coaching staff believes he has great hands and has a lot of potential. At 6-foot-6, 175-pounds, Blummer has great size for a 1996 birth year.
