Vancouver Giants News Release

Today at the 2005 Canadian Hockey League Awards Luncheon in London, Ontario, Vancouver Giants forward GILBERT BRULE was named the Subway Scholastic Player of the Year. By receiving this award, Brule becomes the first player in Giants history to capture a Canadian Hockey League trophy.

"I feel very honoured to receive this award from the CHL," says Brule. "I want to thank the Giants organization, my teachers at South Delta Secondary School, and the Western Hockey League for their support this year."

Brule is the third player from the WHL to receive the CHL Scholastic Player of the Year Award in the last four years. Last year's recipient was Kamloops Blazers goaltender Devan Dubnyk.

"Gilbert approaches his school work the same way he approaches his on-ice work," says Giants Director of Team Services Dale Saip. "All of us in the organization as well as those in the Delta School District and the WHL are very proud of Gilbert's deserving accomplishment."

Earlier this month, Brule was selected as the Western Hockey League's Scholastic Player of the Year along with being named to the WHL's Western Conference First All-Star Team.

Brule, who was named the WHL Rookie of the Year in 2004, is currently completing his high school graduation requirements at South Delta Secondary School with high academic achievements. His hard work off the ice was a contributing factor towards the Giants being named the WHL's Scholastic Team of the Year.
