Bruins fall to Pens

The Providence Bruins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins began their two-game season series on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence, with the Pens taking a 5-2 decision. Providence continued to produce on the power play, scoring two goals on the man- advantage. The Black and Gold, with the number two power play unit in the AHL, connected for nine goals on the man-advantage over the weekend. The Bruins are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 22-18-2-6 record.

Bruin forwards Keith Aucoin (12) and David Gove (9) scored the team's goals, both coming on third period power plays. Aucoin has points (3-5-8) in three straight games.

Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert registered an assist, moving him to within one point of tying the late Sergei Zholtok for the franchise career scoring mark. Hilbert ranks second in overall franchise career scoring, with 90-95-185 totals in 203 games. Hilbert had his team season-high and career-best five-game goal streak snapped on Sunday, a streak in which he tallied seven goals. His current overall point streak has now reached seven games (7-4-11), matching his team season-high and career-best from earlier this season. Hilbert leads the team and is tied for fourth in AHL scoring with 26-28-54 totals in 48 games.

Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 23 shots, while the Penguins wrapped up the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:30 of the third period.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, February 4 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Black and Gold visits the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m., before returning home to host the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, February 6 at 2:05 p.m.
