Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Despite out-shooting the Rochester Americans 38-29, the Hamilton Bulldogs lost 3-2 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum in front of 6,617 fans.
Rochester opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the game when Norm Milley scored his seventh goal of the season. Milley banged in a rebound after Jeff Jillson's initial shot was stopped by Bulldogs goaltender Dan Ellis.
At 10:15 of the first period, the Bulldogs tied the score 1-1 when Chris Higgins scored on the power play. Jason Ward started the tic-tac-toe goal with a pass to Tomas Plekanec who set up Higgins for his 13th marker of the season.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead at 9:02 of the second period with their second power-play goal of the game. Defenceman Ron Hainsey intercepted an Amerks clearing attempt and let a hard wrist shot go that beat netminder Tom Askey.
The Americans evened the score when defenceman Brandon Smith notched his third goal of the season. Jiri Novotny and Nathan Paetsch added assists on the goal.
Rochester took the lead again at 12:43 of the third period. Derek Roy tallied his 12th goal of the season from Tomas Vanek and Doug Janek. The goal was the eventual game winner and dropped the Bulldogs record to 19-20-5-4 after 48 games.
Hamilton faired well on the power play going 2-5 while Rochester was 0-3 with the extra-man. Bulldogs back-stopper Dan Ellis turned aside 26 of 29 shots while Amerks goaltender Tom Askey made 36 saves on 38 shots.
The Bulldogs next game will take place on Wednesday, February 2nd when they travel to the Blue Cross Arena to face the Rochester Americans.
