WORCESTER, MA â The Worcester IceCats saw their two-game winning streak snapped Sunday in a 4-0 loss to the Portland Pirates. The loss also ended a five-game home winning streak.
The Pirates scored a goal in each period, and also tacked on an empty-netter in the third. Graham Mink made it 1-0 Portland at 3:03 of the first, then Brian Sutherby made it 2-0 at 4:03 of the second while the âCats were on a power play. Brooks Laich's penalty-shot goal, also while Worcester was on the power play, deflated the âCats at 4:26 of the third. Jared Aulin added the empty-net goal at 18:49.
The loss set two IceCats records, both involving shutouts. Worcester has now been shut out eight times overall, and five times at home.
Worcester (26-15-3-2, 57 points) will return to action this Wednesday night when they host the Springfield Falcons at 7:05PM.
