April 2, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, April 2, that the club has acquired forward Jaromir Jagr from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Lane MacDermid, the rights to unsigned draft pick Cody Payne and a conditional second round draft pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The 2013 second round pick will become a 2013 first round pick if the Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference finals during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Jagr will wear #68 and is scheduled to join the Bruins on Wednesday, April 3. His media availability will be confirmed by the Bruins Communications Staff shortly.
In 34 games with the Dallas Stars this year, Jagr has registered 14 goals (six of which have come on the power play) and 12 assists for a team-high 26 points. The winger has posted points in his last five games (4-48) and earned his 1,000th career assist on March 29, becoming the 12th player in NHL history and the first European-born player to accomplish the feat.
The two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Pittsburgh, 1991, 1992) has skated in a total of 1,380 NHL games (37th NHL all-time), notching 679 goals (10th NHL all-time) and 1,000 assists (12th NHL all-time). His career 1,679 points rank eighth on the NHL's all-time list. Jagr has been named the Art Ross Trophy winner five times in his career (1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001) and has been selected to the NHL All-Star game on 12 occasions (1992-1994, 1996-2004).
In his 18-year NHL career with Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Dallas, Jagr has never earned a sub-50 point campaign and has the most 50-plus-point seasons in that time span. Jagr notched 15-straight 70+ point seasons from 1992 to 2008, which is an NHL record.
The 41-year-old right wing has averaged a point per game against 24 of the 30 NHL clubs to date while accumulating a +275 rating. Jagr has been named a Hart Memorial Trophy finalist five different times and won the award in 1999 when he scored 44 goals and 88 assists for 127 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The winger holds the league record for most consecutive 30-goal seasons with 15, spanning from 1991-2007.
In 180 NHL playoff games, Jagr has potted 78 goals and 111 assists for 189 points with a +33 rating. The forward is first among active players in playoff goals, assists, points, power play goals (24) and game winning goals (16).
The 6'3'', 240-pound native of Kladno, Czech Republic was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (fifth overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. The Dallas Stars signed Jagr as a free agent on July 3, 2012.
MacDermid has appeared in eight career NHL games with the Bruins, including three this season, and registered 15 penalty minutes. He skated in 249 AHL games with the Providence Bruins over portions of four seasons and recorded 17 goals, 29 assists and 516 penalty minutes. The 23-year-old was drafted by the Bruins in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Payne tallied 24 goals and 21 assists and 75 penalty minutes during the 2012-13 season with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. In his four year OHL career, the 6'2'' 200 pound forward skated in 176 games with 30 goals and 44 assists and 217 penalty minutes. The 19-year-old was drafted by the Bruins in the fifth round (145th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
