Brown Earns League Honours

June 30, 2009 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The list of Goldeyes attracting league attention continues to grow.

Extending his league-leading hit streak to 19 games while taking over the league lead in hitting, outfield Dee Brown was named on Monday as the Northern League Player of the Week for June 22-28. He is the third position player and sixth member of the Goldeyes to earn league honours this season.

Brown, 26, had a monster week, batting .500 (10/20) with three home runs, four runs scored and 10 driven in, fashioning .500 on-base and .950 slugging percentages for a mammoth 1.450 OPS. In doing so, he upped his batting average 22 percentage points to sit at a league-best .372 entering Monday action.

Showing the weekly award was well-deserved, not to mention his being named yesterday to play in the Northern League All-Star Game next week, Brown had two more hits Monday night as the league-leading Goldeyes dumped Schaumburg 7-5. He has now hit in 20-straight games, a streak that began June 5 and has seen his average climb 100 points to sit at .379.

Brown joins fellow position players Wes Long and Kevin West and pitchers Matt Davis, Bear Bay and Ace Walker as Goldeyes to be honoured by the league this year.

Winnipeg is back in action tonight against Schaumburg in the middle game of a three-game set. Come join us as we begin celebrating our country's birthday a day early with a fabulous fireworks display. Game time is 7:00 and great seats starting at just $5 and are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
