JackHammers Come Up Short

JOLIET, IL-1B Freddie Thon went 2-3 with a double, home run and four RBI but it was not enough, as the Joliet JackHammers (15-28) lost 5-4 to the Kansas City T-Bones (20-20) before 3,900 fans at Silver Cross Field on Tuesday night.

The T-Bones plated a run in the 1st inning against Joliet RHP Jason Richardson. 1B Damien Rolls (1-5) hit a one-out single and scored on a double by RF Greg Jacobs (2-3) for a 1-0 Kansas City lead.

The JackHammers came back in the 1st inning. 2B Gary Harris (1-5) led off the inning by popping out. SS Kevin Rios (1-4) was hit by a pitch and LF Brad Correll (1-3) worked a walk. DH Andrew Pinckney (2-5) flew out to left field. Thon hit a two-run double to give the JackHammers a 2-1 lead.

Kansas City put up two more runs in the 2nd inning on a two-run home run over the center field wall by SS Mark Minicozzi (1-4) for a 3-2 KC advantage.

The visitors pushed across another run in the 3rd inning to take a 4-2 lead. 3B Jacob Blackwood (3-4) singled and moved to second base on a walk by CF Aharon Eggleston (0-3). Rolls flew out to right field, moving Blackwood to third base. A sacrifice fly by Jacobs scored Blackwood to make the lead two runs.

The JackHammers tied the game with two runs in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 4-4. Pinckney hit a one-out double and scored on a two-run home run by Thon for a 4-4 tied score.

The T-Bones took the lead for good in the 4th inning. Blackwood singled and advanced to second base on a walk issued to Eggleston. Rolls flew out to right field to move Blackwood to third base. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacobs for a 5-4 Kansas City lead.

The JackHammers and T-Bones battle in game three of their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's Winning Wednesday with the JackHammers playing Baseball Bingo along with a pre-game catch of the field. The JackHammers will also give away $1,000.00 to a randomly selected charity in attendance! Kansas City sends RHP Cody McAlister (3-0, 3.79) to the mound against RHP Jason Novak (1-2, 5.55) for Joliet.
