Texas Legends News Release
MEXICO CITY, MX - The Texas Legends (1-1) split their regular season-opening series in a 112-111 nail-biter over the Mexico City Capitanes (1-1) with help from a career-high performance from Greg Brown III.
Repeating Wednesday's woes, Texas opened with a strong first half but found themselves trailing in the third quarter. The Legends had taken their largest lead of the night (+13) within the first two minutes of the second, but Mexico City pulled within four by the break.
The two exchanged jumpers to open the third until the game was tied 60-all. Midway through the quarter, Malique Lewis sank back-to-backs to give the home team their first lead of the night. Seven baskets led to seven lead changes before the Capitanes managed a six-point run to jump ahead. Mexico City took their largest lead (+8) with a long buzzer-beater from Ethan Thompson to end the third. The two again exchanged seven baskets to open the fourth. Texas tied it up 95-95 with seven minutes to play but the Capitanes responded with a quick five-point streak. Facing a six-point deficit with 4:29 left, Texas went on a 9-0 run and ultimately grabbed a four-point edge just under the two-minute mark. Mexico City went 5-0 but Theo Pinson knocked down two free throws and Texas defended the final attempt to take the win.
Justin Jackson led all scorers with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Greg Brown III had a career-high 15 rebounds along with 22 points, 2 blocks. Tony Bradley finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks, and Joe Wieskamp came off the bench for 17 points, 6 rebounds.
