Daytona Tortugas News Release
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - For the second time in the road trip, heartbreak found the Tortugas, as Fire Frogs C Logan Brown delivered a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth, as Florida slipped past Daytona, 2-1, on Saturday night at Osceola County Stadium.
The Tortugas (18-20, 53-50) held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the final frame, but LF Jefrey Ramos (1-4) singled and 1B Drew Lugbauer (0-3, BB, 2 SO) walked to start the Fire Frogs' (14-24, 39-65) rally. After both men were pinch-run for, 2B Kevin Josephina (0-4, SO) popped up a bunt for the opening out of the inning.
With men at first and second and one out, Brown (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SO) proceeded to hammer the second pitch he saw into the left-centerfield gap. The ball rolled all the way to the fence allowing both runners to score on the double, giving the Fire Frogs a 2-1 victory.
It was a scoreless contest until Daytona got on the board in the top of the eighth. LF Drew Mount (1-4, R, SO) reached via a dropped-third-strike wild pitch to begin the frame and then a fielder's choice and a throwing error enabled him to advance to third with nobody out. CF Andy Sugilio (1-3, RBI, SO) would loft a sacrifice fly to center to drive home the run and put the Tortugas ahead, 1-0.
Neither starter received a decision on Saturday. Daytona's RHP Mac Sceroler (6.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 7 SO) was stellar, hurling six shutout frames and matching a season-best with seven strikeouts. Florida's RHP Nolan Kingham (8.2 IP, 7 H, R, 9 SO) fell an out shy of a complete game and whiffed nine.
RHP Sean McLaughlin (0.1 IP) came on to record the final out in the top of the ninth for the Fire Frogs, earning his second triumph. LHP Andy Cox (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB) was saddled with his fourth defeat for the Tortugas.
Daytona will look to earn a series split on Sunday afternoon, as RHP Austin Orewiler (7-7, 3.28 ERA) is expected to take the hill in the finale. RHP Freddy Tarnok (2-5, 5.60 ERA) - Atlanta's No. 17 prospect according to Baseball America - is scheduled to get the ball for Florida.
The Tortugas Pre-Game Show will kick off the broadcast at 11:45 a.m. ET, leading up to the 12:00 p.m. ET start at Osceola County Stadium. Sunday afternoon's contest can be heard on www.daytonatortugas.com or via the TuneIn Radio and MiLB First Pitch apps.
Following the lengthy road trip, the Tortugas will return to The Jack to open up a three-contest set against the St. Lucie Mets, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Friday, August 2. Daytona continues its Best Dressed Friday series, as players and coaches will don special uniforms in honor of the 25th anniversary of comedy classic, "Dumb and Dumber". Those jerseys will be auctioned off online throughout the weekend. It will be another Friday Night Happy Hour presented by Kona Brewing with buy-one, get-one Kona beer products and Bud Light from 5:30 p.m. until first pitch. Finally, after the game, fans will be treated to another splendid Postgame Fireworks display.
Multi-game plans and single-game tickets are still currently available and can be purchased online at www.daytonatortugas.com, or by calling the Tortugas' Ticket Office at (386) 257-3172.
