Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bailey Ober pitched into the seventh inning, and four different players collected an RBI, as the Miracle held off a late Lakeland rally to earn a 4-3 win over the Flying Tigers on Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
Ober (4-0) yielded just an unearned run in 6.1 innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run in five of his seven starts this season.
Jacob Pearson broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with an RBI single. Andrew Bechtold followed with a run scoring single to push the Miracle lead to 2-0.
The Miracle added two more runs in the fifth to double their lead to 4-0. Jose Miranda and Aaron Whitefield each delivered run scoring hits. Miranda has recorded at least one hit in nine of his last 11 games.
Lakeland scratched across an unearned run in the seventh, capitalizing on a pair of Miracle errors.
A Jon Rosoff two-run single in the ninth pulled Lakeland to within a run, but Zach Neff slammed the door to earn his fourth save. The left-hander picked up the final two outs of the game, including a strikeout of Brock Deatherage with runners on second and third.
Fort Myers pounded out 12 hits in the win. Whitefield, Pearson, Bechtold, and David Banuelos combined to go 8-for-16 with each player collecting two hits.
The Miracle will look to take three of four from Lakeland when they take the field on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
