Brooks Joins Cutters Batter of the Week Club
August 15, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release
New Haven County third baseman/designated hitter Jeff Brooks is the latest Cutters player to be named Batter of the Week by the Can-Am League for his efforts at the plate between August 8-14.
The effects of an injured finger, which limit his ability to play in the field, have not hampered the ninth-year player's command of the bat. Brooks made that abundantly clear this past week, batting an even .600 (12 for 20), with three home runs, five runs scored and 12 runs batted in. He had five or more RBIs in two separate games (Monday and Saturday) and had multi-hit performances in each of the five games he played.
The Nottingham, PA resident's offensive output was so extraordinary that he actually had a higher batting average than on-base percentage (.591).
The first place Cutters won four out of the five games Brooks was a part of, including a three-game sweep over the Elmira Pioneers this past weekend.
Brooks is the third Cutters recipient of the Batter of the Week award and the fourth Cutters player to win a weekly award. He joins his middle of the lineup partners Derrick Gibson, who won the team's first weekly batting award July 18-24, and Bill Peavey, who collected the honor the following week, July 25-31. Gibson also collected another significant piece of hardware in July, as he was crowned Batter of the Month.
Right-handed pitcher Jarrett Stawarz won the first weekly award for the Cutters this season, nabbing Pitcher of the Week honors between July 11-17.
Brooks and the rest of the Cutters will to continue their recent hot streak as they host the North Shore Spirit for three games starting on Tuesday at 7:05. The two teams met last week away from Yale Field, with New Haven County taking two of three from the Spirit. Tuesday's starter Rolando Valles pitched in one of those victories last week, tossing a two-run, complete game, earning his sixth win of the year.
Tickets to upcoming home games can be purchased online at www.CuttersBaseball.com, by calling 203-777-5636 or by stopping by the Yale Field box office.
