Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox with Dianne, Rick and Mike Snelgrove will announce the dedication of the annual "Victoria Snelgrove Media Internship" to be awarded each spring to an aspiring journalist.

Victoria Snelgrove's family -- parents Dianne and Rick and their son Mike -- will speak to the media for the first time since Victoria, the 21-year old Emerson College student and East Bridgewater native, was tragically killed last fall during a Red Sox victory celebration last October.

"Torie was a person full of hope, and her dream was to work in broadcast journalism," said Dianne. "We believe her spirit will inspire other young people through this internship opportunity."

A press conference hosted by the Rox and the Snelgrove family will be held at The Shaw's Center at noon on Friday, August 19.

"Our daughter's life was a life that should not have been taken," said Rick. "It is our hope and prayer that no other family has to endure a tragedy such as this. We can and must create positive, nonviolent outlets in our communities. The Brockton Rox have brought an uplifting, family environment to our area, which we appreciate."

Interested students can apply for the "Victoria Snelgrove Media Internship" by visiting www.brocktonrox.com and filling out an online application. The paid internship with the Rox will run from March 1 to October 1 every year. The honoree will host the Rox pre- and post-game show on the team's flagship radio station, WBET 1460-AM. He or she will also assist the Rox media department. Current media intern Jesse Goldberg-Strassler is the 2005 honoree.

To help other students from East Bridgewater High School and Emerson who share her dream, Victoria's family has also created the Victoria Snelgrove Memorial Fund to award scholarships in her memory. More information regarding the Torie Fund is available at www.victoriasnelgrove.org.
