Swift Current Broncos News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (3-8-1-0) couldn't seem to get the wheels spinning in the right direction in a 4-2 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night, and are hoping two days off will give them a boost against the Regina Pats (4-6-2-0) Tuesday night.
Saturday the Broncos found themselves shorthanded just 18 seconds into the game and gave up a power-play goal 1:07 after the puck dropped. Justin Nachbaur's shot from the point bounced off Dallyn Peekeekoot, then off Sam McGinley before trickling over the goal line.
McGinley made up for the bounce by scoring a goal of his own later in the period, but a second power-play goal against put the Broncos down 2-1 heading into the second. Spencer Moe scored his first goal of the year early in period two to set the Broncos behind 3-1 after 40 minutes.
Rookie Josh Filmon scored early in period three to get the Broncos to within one, and Swift Current was given a power play with under three minutes to play, but couldn't find the equalizer before the Raiders scored into an empty net to seal the loss.
Tuesday will be the third of four meetings against Regina in the season series with the Pats winning the previous two, albeit in two different fashions.
March 17 the Broncos scored with the net empty in the final minutes to pull themselves within one, but couldn't draw even as Regina held on for a 3-2 win. It was a much different story last Monday as the offensive flood gates were open in a 9-4 Pats win.
Rookie Connor Bedard led the way for Regina recording a goal and three assists for his club, while Mathew Ward scored his first WHL goal for the Broncos in the loss.
Tuesday will be the final time the Broncos will see Bedard in action this season as he will be off to represent Canada at the World Under-18 Championships in Texas this coming weekend.
Catch the action at watch.chl.tv or listen on Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey on The Eagle 94.1. Pre-game show starts at 7:30.
