Swift Current Broncos News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (4-15-1-0) were on their heels for long stretches of time against the Winnipeg ICE (14-5-1-0) Monday night, ultimately dropping a 5-2 game.
Isaac Poulter was stellar in the Broncos net all game, but especially in the opening 20 as he turned aside all 17 shots he faced. That helped the Broncos take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
In the final seconds of the period, Owen Williams raced ahead down the left wing before cutting to the net and sneaking a shot under the blocker of Gage Alexander with 1.5 seconds remaining in the period.
Winnipeg pulled even early in the second as Zachary Benson knocked a puck out of mid-air to tie the game 3:11 in. The goal was reviewed for a potential high stick, but eventually ruled a good goal.
The ICE kept up the offensive pressure in the second and Peyton Krebs gave his team a lead they wouldn't relinquish 9:02 into the frame. Krebs, who played defence for most of the night due to injures to the ICE, skated down the right-wing boards before cutting to the slot and firing a shot over Poulter's glove.
Mikey Milne extended Winnipeg's lead shortly after, keeping on a two-on-one rush and scoring from the left circle to make it 3-1.
Caleb Wyrostok cut into the ICE lead before the period was up, picking up a loose puck after a strong forechecking shift, and beating Alexander on the blocker side to get the Broncos within one heading into the third.
While the Broncos started generating more chances in the third, the ICE would add two goals thanks to James Form and Benson to pick up a 5-2 win. Poulter turned aside 40 of 45 ICE shots in the loss while the Broncos penalty kill didn't give up a goal through five chances.
The Broncos are off on Tuesday before facing the East-Division-leading Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday at 4:00
