Swift Current Broncos News Release

KELOWNA, BC - The Swift Current Broncos (2-5-1-1) were neck and neck with the Kelowna Rockets (6-3-1-0) Wednesday night, but Nolan Foote's overtime winner handed the Broncos their fifth straight loss.

Ben King, playing near his hometown of Vernon, opened the scoring 7:49 into the game when he redirected a slap shot from Kasper Puutio past Cole Schewebius.

The Broncos held that 1-0 lead after 20 minutes after killing off some late penalty time in the first.

Kelowna would pull even in the second. After Alex Moar swept the puck off the goal line, and then made a kick save seconds later to deny another goal, the puck came to the side of the net where Foote was able to fire it into the cage to tie the game.

Three minutes later, and on the power play, Pavel Novak wired a wrist shot from the right circle over the shoulder of Isaac Poulter to give the Rockets a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Brecon Wood pulled the Broncos even early in the third, beating Schwebius over the glove from the left circle off the rush.

The Rockets controlled the majority of the play in the third, peppering Poulter who was equal to every task. He finished with 33 saves.

In overtime the Broncos had control of the puck for the first 50 seconds or so before Kelowna got it in their own end. After a line change, Foote had the puck near the left point before skating towards the net.

Foote then leaned into a wrist shot and beat Poulter on the glove side for his second of the game to hand the Broncos the loss.

Swift Current continues their road swing through the BC Division with a game in Victoira against the Royals (2-4-1-0) Friday night.
