Bristol State Liners News Release
With the Bristol Pirates in search of their first-ever appearance in the Appalachian League playoffs, Bristol Baseball, Inc., the all-volunteer non-profit organization which operates the Pirates, announced several promotions for the team's final homestand this coming week.
The Pirates will host the Kingsport Mets each evening from Sunday, August 23, through Tuesday, August 25. The Pirates currently stand only three games behind the Mets for a playoff spot in the League's Western Division, and lead the Mets 3-2 in head-to-head competition this season. The teams' head-to-head record will serve as a tiebreaker to determine a playoff spot, if necessary.
The two teams will play a double-header August 23, with gates opening at 4:30 pm for a 5:00 pm first pitch.
"There's not a better deal in town than only $5.00 for two pennant race professional ballgames out at Boyce Cox Field Sunday evening," commented Pirates' General Manager Mahlon Luttrell. "It's just the start to a great week, on and off the ballfield."
Monday evening will be the first of two special giveaways this week for local kids, as Food City will present backpacks to the first 100 kids through the gate that evening. The gates will open at 6:00 pm for that evening's 7:00 pm contest.
Tuesday evening is the annual Bristol Food Pantry game, with fans encouraged to bring a food item to donate to local families in need of food.
"Every year, we try to give back to the community and support our fellow non-profits," noted Luttrell. "We encourage all our fans to give back Tuesday evening and help to feed their neighbors. That game will also start at 7:00 pm, with the gates opening at 6:00 pm."
The Pirates host the Pulaski Yankees for four games, Wednesday, August 26, through Saturday, August 29, to conclude the homestand.
The team will release additional information about those games early next week.
