Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, a proud member of the Northeast League, have announced that they have activated coach Josh Brinkley. The club has also placed RHP Jeff Sparks on the disabled list.

A native of Kingston, NC, Brinkley played last year for the Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs of the Northern League, hitting .246 with 23 RBI's. In 10 minor league seasons, Josh has amassed a .269 average with 40 home runs and 243 RBI's. The Montreal Expos originally signed him as a non-drafted free agent in 1993 before he began playing for Lumberjacks manager Kash Beauchamp in New Jersey in 1998. In his debut Wednesday night, Brinkley went 1-4 with an RBI single and a run scored.

"One of the main reasons we brought Josh here besides our belief that he would make a great hitting coach, was the flexibility he provides for a situation like we are in now," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey. "He proved last night that he could still get the clutch hit."

To clear a spot for Brinkley on the roster, the Jacks placed Sparks, who is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA this year, on the disabled list. He suffered an injury while warming up in the third inning of his last start.

The Jacks head back on the road with five games in four nights in New Jersey beginning Thursday night, and then with three games in Quebec. The Jacks return home on Friday, June 13 for a 7 game home stand. Friday the 13th is Halloween Night at Mahaney Diamond. Come dressed in a costume for your chance to win great prizes. It is also UniFirst T-shirt giveaway night. The first few hundred fans through the gate will receive a t-shirt courtesy of UniFirst. The game against the Brockton Rox begins at 7:15 PM; gates open at 6 PM. Tickets are available by calling the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (207) 947-1900.
