Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have been loaned former Islanders draft pick Lukas Sutter from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

"Lukas had a great year as a 17 year old, scoring 28 goals, and was drafted but not signed by the Winnipeg Jets," Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm said. "The Islanders liked him and took him as he re-entered the draft. He plays a good all-around game, he can score, he's an agitator and is a good penalty killer. He had a great camp in Bridgeport."

Sutter, 21, was originally drafted in 2012 by the Winnipeg Jets, but was allowed to re-enter the draft in 2014 after the Jets failed to sign him within two years of drafting him. The Islanders selected him in the seventh-round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6'0", 210 lb. forward spent the majority of his junior career with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL before playing his final season in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. In the WHL, Sutter collected 126 points (55 goals, 71 assists) and 596 penalty minutes in 265 games played.

See Lukas and the Stockton Thunder open the team's 10th season in the Central Valley on Sunday, October 19, as the Thunder play the home opener against the Bakersfield Condors at 4:00pm. Stockton Arena doors open at 3:00 p.m. with the first 5,000 fans in attendance receiving Thunder magnetic schedules.
