July 27, 2014 - Pioneer League (PL)
Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
HELENA, Mont. - A night after a blowout of Helena, the Missoula Osprey were on the wrong end of a 14-5 decision. Helena scored twelve runs by the end of the fourth inning on not only timely hits but a series of Osprey errors. Five Osprey miscues would doom Missoula in the loss.
The Osprey (17-22) scored two runs in the first before the Helena offense began rolling with a two-run double by Kevin Cron, who would finish with two hits on the night and barely missed a would-be three-run dinger in the ninth that was called foul. Sergio Alcantara and Justin Williams scored on the play. Williams singled in the inning and would finish 3-5 to extend his hitting streak to 21 games.
The Brewers (14-25) scored two runs in both the first and second innings off starter Carlos Hernandez. The righty fell to 2-3 on the year with 2.2 innings, eight runs, five earned, off six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The Brewers would churn out ten hits with four of them coming off reliever Tyler Toyfair, who allowed four unearned runs in 3.1 innings. Wagner Mateo pitched the last two innings for the O's with two earned runs off four walks and no hits.
Missoula continued its scoring with a run in the third inning off a Dane McFarland ground-rule double. The Osprey added two more in the sixth inning with a Trevor Mitsui dinger to left centerfield, his team-leading ninth of the season, to open a string of four hits in a row. Three singles later, including an RBI drive from Tyler Humphreys, would give the Osprey their final run of the game.
Jorge Ortega (2-1) got the win for Helena with six innings, nine hits, four earned runs, no walks, and five strikeouts. Reliever Brandon Moore picked up his second save of the year with three innings and no runs off four hits.
Missoula ends its series with Helena tomorrow for a 1:05 p.m. start. Tickets for all Osprey games are available at the MSO Hub Box Office, by phone at (406) 543-3300 and online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
