Great Falls Voyagers News Release
BILLINGS, Mont. (July 27, 2014) - The Great Falls Voyagers made a season-high four errors, and fell 6-4 to the Billings Mustangs Sunday afternoon at Dehler Park to drop two of the three in the series.
The Mustangs (1-1, 18-22) took advantage of an error in the second to score the contest's first run. After reaching on the error, Aristides Aquino stole second, then came home on Billings first hit of the afternoon, a single by Garrett Boulware.
Great Falls (1-1, 24-16) then committed three errors to help Billings score four unearned runs against Brian Clark (2-2) in the third. After a single and back-to-back Voyager miscues, Corey Thompson brought in the first run of the frame with a single. Later in the frame, the Voyagers made another error to keep the inning alive for Boulware, who delivered a two-run double.
In the next half inning, it was the Voyagers turn to take advantage of some sloppy defense. With the bases loaded and one out, Argenis Aldazoro made an error as he tried to start a potential inning-ending double play to get Great Falls on the board. With the bases still loaded, Ryan Jones delivered a two-run single, bringing the Voyagers within a pair.
Billings pushed across one more in the sixth, as Ty Washington drove in a run with a double, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.
The Voyagers pulled a run closer in the sixth as Zach Fish homered off Jose Williams (2-1), for his second in as many days.
That was as close as Great Falls got, as the Billings bullpen put up zeroes over the final three frames, including an inning and two-thirds from Brennan Bernardino who collected his fourth save.
The Voyagers continue their seven-game road trip Monday night as they begin a series in Missoula against the Osprey. In the series opener, Great Falls will send righty Zach Thompson (1-2 3.92) to the mound, while Missoula will counter with southpaw Gabriel Moya (2-2, 5.94). First pitch is set for 7:15 and coverage will begin at 7:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
