Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - On Monday December 12, Hockey Canada announced their final roster for the 2023 World Junior Championships in Moncton, NB and Halifax, NS. Included in the roster was Petes forward and New York Rangers first round pick, Brennan Othmann.
Othmann will be representing Canada for the second time at the World Junior Championships. He won a gold medal with the team on August 20, 2022 in overtime against Finland. Othmann impressed in his first showing at the tournament, recording two goals and four assists for six points in six games. Othmann has also represented Canada at the U18 and U17 levels, winning a gold medal at the 2021 IIHF World U18 Hockey Championships.
"We're really excited for Brennan," Exclaimed Petes General Manager Michael Oke. "To represent Canada once at this event is a huge honour, to do it twice is an opportunity that not a lot of players get to experience."
A Pickering, ON native, Othmann was acquired from the Flint Firebirds on November 12 in exchange for Artem Guryev and three OHL Priority Selection picks. A 50 goal scorer in the OHL last season, Othmann currently leads the Petes in points with 35 in 26 games.
Othmann joins Petes defenceman and Philadelphia Flyers prospect, Brian Zanetti who will also be taking part in the tournament with Switzerland. Othmann becomes the third Pete to represent Canada at the WJC since 2010, along with Nick Ritchie in 2015 and Mason McTavish in 2022. The 2023 WJC kicks off on Boxing Day, with both Othmann and Zanetti in action for their respective countries. The full schedule for the tournament can be found here.
The Petes next home game is on Thursday when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs for Front Line and Healthcare Workers Night at the PMC. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
