Sapovaliv Headed to Czechia's 2023 World Junior Camp

Saginaw, Mich. - The Czech Ice Hockey Association (CIHA) has announced that Spirit center Matyas Sapovaliv will join team Czechia for the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship.

"This is one of the biggest stages in hockey," said Saginaw's GM Dave Drinkill. "We're so happy that Matyas will get to be a part of it once again. These are the kinds of experiences that players cherish and we wish him the best of luck."

Sapovaliv made his World Junior Championship debut over the summer with team Czechia, scoring a pair of goals in seven games.

The 2022 second round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights has racked up 30 points in 30 games with the Spirit this season, including 11 goals and 19 assists.

To this point in his OHL career, the 6'3" left-handed center has 29 goals, 53 assists, and 82 points in 98 career games. He was selected 15th overall by the Spirit in the 2021 CHL import draft. At the conclusion of the 2021-22 regular season, Sapovaliv was named to the OHL First All-Rookie All-Star Team.

Czechia will begin its World Junior Championship schedule on December 26th against Team Canada. Puck drop from Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia is set for 7:30pm.
