Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves have accepted the challenge from the Perdue Family of Companies, which includes Perdue Farms & Perdue AgriBusiness, to "Strike Out Hunger." This challenge is being held in conjunction with the South Atlantic League's 2011 All-Star Game on June 21 in Salisbury, Maryland. This is an opportunity for teams in the South Atlantic League to partner with Feeding America affiliated food banks and community kitchens in the fight against hunger.
Members of the Rome Braves team, field staff, and front office staff will be working together to raise the equivalent of 5,000 meals by June 12, 2011. The Rome Braves have partnered with the Rome-Floyd County Community Kitchen to meet this goal. This will include volunteering hours on four separate occasions this summer with the Kitchen.
The Rome-Floyd County Community Kitchen is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping feed those in need in the Rome-Floyd County Community with 100% participation by volunteers. An average of 2,500 meals are served each month and over 56,000 meals have been served to the hungry in Rome-Floyd County since their opening.
The Rome Braves are asking all of their fans to help in this challenge. Two separate canned food drives will be held at State Mutual Stadium May 29-31 and June 9-11. Every time a fan donates three canned food items during this time, they will automatically receive a voucher for a free General Admission ticket to any game at State Mutual Stadium August 22-30, 2011. Fans can also donate canned food items at the Community Kitchen located on North Broad Street in Rome. They must indicate their participation in the Rome Braves Strike Out Hunger campaign for the items to be counted in the Perdue challenge.
"We're excited to take on a challenge such as this that allows participation from the entire Rome Braves network. Our team, field staff, front office staff, partners, and fans all have the opportunity to come together in helping this very important community asset," said Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn.
