BILOXI, MS. - The Biloxi Shuckers and Mississippi Braves combined for 31 hits on Wednesday night, but the hometown Shuckers fell, 6-2, in 14 innings at MGM Park. The 31 hits blow away the previous season high of 19 set on May 21 against the Tennessee Smokies, Mississippi's 19 hits are the most surrendered by Biloxi's pitching staff this season, during the Shuckers' longest inning-game of the season.

The 14 inning contest matched the longest played at MGM Park and the first since the first ever game played at the home ballpark on June 6, 2015, a 5-4 win over the Mobile BayBears. The 4:17 game duration was the second-longest in franchise history, just short of aforementioned June 6, 2015 contest that lasted 4:26.

Each club exhausted all of their position players by the 13th inning and 37 total players were used, including 12 pitchers.

With the game even at 2-2, Mel Rojas, Jr., Dansby Swanson and Dustin Peterson all reached safely to start the 14th, leading up to Carlos Franco's ground-rule double to right to put the Braves on top in the 14th inning against Tristan Archer (2-2). Willians Astudillo followed with a double to left to break the game open at 6-2.

Biloxi (30-22) put up two runs in the second inning for the second consecutive game against Mississippi (23-29) to grab the early lead.

Nick Ramirez (1x4, R) singled, Jacob Nottingham (1x6, 2B, R) ripped a double to left and Garrett Cooper's (4x6, RBI) infield singled brought home Ramirez for the first run of the frame without an out being recorded. Nick Shaw (1x5, BB) drew a free pass to load the bases, setting up Javier Betancourt's (0x4, RBI, BB) sacrifice fly to left to plate Nottingham for the second run of the inning.

The Braves' Johan Camargo brought the visitors within a run in the fifth with a leadoff home run, his third of the year.

Shuckers' starter Adrian Houser was a groundball machine on the mound, inducing 12 groundouts on the night with two fly outs and four strikeouts in six innings to go along with a run allowed on seven hits and a walk. The 23-year-old left the game with a 2-1 lead, but did not factor into the decision.

Stephen Peterson relieved Houser to start the seventh and surrendered the tying run on an RBI double to right off the bat of Rojas, scoring Jordy Lara from second base.

Biloxi manager Mike Guerrero turned to Tyler Spurlin in the eighth, and after a perfect inning, the right-hander ran into a jam in the ninth. A leadoff walk to Jacob Schrader started the frame, and a wild pitch to Camargo advanced the runner to second. The Braves' second baseman dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Schrader to third with one out.

Stephen Kohlscheen was summoned from the bullpen and struck out Dian Toscano and Matt Lipka to get out of the inning unscathed.

Biloxi had a chance to walk off in the ninth with runners at the corners and two outs for Brett Phillips (2x7, 2B), but the centerfielder went down on strikes.

Stephen Janas (3-2) tossed a perfect bottom half of the 13th inning to get the win and even up the five-game series at one game apiece.

The Shuckers will look to pull ahead in game three of the five-game set on Thursday night at MGM Park. RHP Javi Salas (3-1, 3.79) takes the mound for Biloxi, while LHP Sean Newcomb (2-2, 3.71) will start for Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.
