Biscuits Snap Seven-Game Skid, Sweep Suns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After enduring their worst losing streak in almost two years, the Biscuits rose from the ashes to sweep the Jacksonville Suns in a doubleheader on Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Biscuits sent Hunter Wood (1-0) to the mound in Game One for his first Double-A start, and the 22-year-old right-hander delivered a gem, pitching five shutout innings and allowing just two hits in his Montgomery debut. The lone run the Biscuits would score was on a wild pitch uncorked by Jacksonville starter Austin Brice, but it was enough as Montgomery went on to a 1-0 win in the first game of the twin billing.

Game two would see Jake Faria go up against southpaw Matt Tomshaw, and while Faria would serve up a three-run home run to Biscuit-killer Chris Curley in the second, the right-hander settled down to record a quality start, tossing seven innings and striking out six in a no decision.

The Biscuits, who were down 3-0 early, would chip away at the lead thanks to a sac fly by Casey Gillaspie, and a solo homer by Patrick Leonard that cut the deficit to one. Jake Bauers would plate Pat Blair on an RBI-single in the sixth to tie the game, which would eventually head to extra innings.

In the ninth, Leonard hit a ground-rule double down the right field line, and then Jake Hager, who had been hitless in the series, delivered a line drive RBI-single to bring the center fielder to the plate for the go-ahead run. Jeff Ames (4-1) would pitch 1.2 scoreless innings and got Francisco Arcia to strike out looking to end the game, as the Biscuits won 4-3.

The Biscuits, who snapped a seven-game losing streak on Thursday, will now look to make it three in a row on Friday when Taylor Guerrieri (2-4) takes the mound at 6:05 PM.
