Rome Emperors News Release
The Rome Braves (10-7) fell to second place in the High-A East South Division standings following last night's 2-1 loss to Bowling Green (11-6). The Braves' inability to find hitting consistency led to the one-run defeat on Saturday night.
After three scoreless innings, Bowling Green struck for two runs in the top of the fourth. Both runs were charged against starter Mitch Stallings but came while reliever Lisandro Santos was on the mound. Rome would get a runner in scoring position in the fifth inning but did not push their first run across until the bottom of the eighth. Michael Harris II picked up his team-leading 12th RBI by driving in Cody Milligan from third base. Unfortunately, the R-Braves would not touch home plate again in the 2-1 loss.
Cody Milligan led the Rome offense in hits with his 2-for-3 day at the plate. Milligan served as the only run of the game for Atlanta's High-A affiliate as well. The Cowley County Community College product has the second-highest batting average on the team as he is hitting .357 in 13 games played.
After the two-run fourth inning, Braves pitching was able to shut the door on the Hot Rod offense. Much of this is due to the efforts of reliever Coleman Huntley III. The 28-year-old righty entered in the sixth inning and gave up just two hits in two innings while striking out four. Huntley has yet to allow a run in 12.1 innings pitched and kept Rome in the game despite their offensive woes.
The two teams will finish up this six-game series at State Mutual Stadium on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow. Sunday's game will mark the first Family Fun Day of the 2021 season. Fans can take advantage of the Family Fun Day Package that includes four tickets, four hamburgers, four sodas, four popcorns, and four hats (over $100 value) for $50.
