Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves were shut out for the first time this season, falling 10-0 to the Greeneville Reds on Friday night. It was the first time this season the D-Braves got swept by an opponent.
Brandon Parker and Connor Blair had two hits each to lead Danville, who stranded 10 runners while giving up double-digits for the sixth time this season.
Greeneville scored first in the second inning, on an RBI single. The Reds added two in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Danville got a one-out Brandon Parker single to get a runner on base in the bottom half of the inning before following it up with a single from Connor Blair and a walk from Willie Carter to load the bases. The Reds escaped the jam by getting Cody Birdsong to ground into a double play, ending the inning.
Danville stranded another runner on third in the fourth frame before Greeneville added a run in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Perhaps remembering a late Danville rally that nearly erased a six-run lead on Thursday night, Greeneville more than doubled its lead in the seventh inning, tacking on an additional five runs. The Reds strung together singles, walks, a steal and a batter hit by a pitch to take a 9-0 advantage.
Carter led off the eighth inning with a double and advanced to third on a fly out from Birdsong, but the next two batters were unable to bring him home. An RBI triple from Greeneville added on the team's final run in the ninth inning before the Danville side was retired to end the game.
The team will look to snap its three-game losing streak on the road, as the D-Braves travel to Burlington for a four-game series beginning Friday night.
