INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Jonathan Johnson pitched four scoreless innings as Richmond beat Indianapolis, 3-1, on Friday in completion of a suspended game at Victory Field. The win ended a club record 12 game losing streak. In the regularly scheduled game Friday the Indians edged the Braves 1-0 in eight innings (the game was scheduled for seven).
Johnson (1-3) allowed one hit, walked one and struck out four while lowering his ERA to 5.79. Brian O'Connor started and gave up one hit and struck out three in three scoreless innings before rain halted play. Wayne Franklin gave up an unearned run on one a hit in the eighth and Manny Acosta worked a scoreless ninth to earn his third save as Richmond snapped a 12-game losing streak. The Braves (27-46) held a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on Thursday when rain in Indianapolis prompted the suspension.
Richmond took the lead in the second on an RBI single by Tony Pena and James Jurries delivered a run-scoring double the next inning to make it 2-0. Gregor Blanco, who scored on Jurries' double, was 2-for-4 with a walk . The Indians (38-34) scored their only run in the eighth when J.J Furmaniak reached on shortstop Pena's error and came home on Rajai Davis' single to left. Davis went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Indianapolis starter Jason Roach (2-2) gave up two runs on five hits through four innings.
In the game slated originally for Friday, Chris Truby slapped a walk-off single in the eighth to chase home the only run of the game. Jonah Bayliss picked up the win with three innings of no hit relief. Peter Moylan took the loss. Ricardo Rodriguez pitched seven scoreless innings for the Braves.
The Braves and Indians meet again Saturday at 7 PM. The Braves return home June 30 vs. Charlotte.
