In yet another pitcher's duel, Ryan Baerlocher and Esmerling Vasquez faced off at Trustmark Park Friday night. Both were outstanding as Baerlocher gave up a run and Vasquez gave up two. The game-deciding play was a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth.

Mobile broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Chris Rahl scored on a sac-fly by Javier Brito. Rahl got things started with a one-out double and moved over to third on a wild pitch. Brito's fly to left brought Rahl home with the game's first run.

Mississippi didn't get a hit through the first 5.2 innings, but that changed in the bottom of the sixth. Kala Ka'aihue ripped a two-out single to left the end the no-hitter and Van Pope doubled to dead-center field. Ka'aihue scored from first on Pope's double to tie the score at one.

Mississippi took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Van Pope got things going by getting hit by a pitch and he moved to third on a single by Clint Sammons. After a pitching change, Pope came in to score on a wild pitch to give the Braves a 2-1 lead heading to the ninth.

Ryan Baerlocher was outstanding for the fourth consecutive outing. Baerlocher gave up one run on four hits through seven innings and left with the score tied at one. Wes Wilkerson threw one scoreless inning to get the win and Kris Medlen struck out the first batter he faced then induced a game-ending double play to earn his first AA save.

Esmerling Vasquez gave up two runs on four hits in 7.1 innings and left the game trailing 2-1. Vasquez fell to 10-6 on the year. Clint Goocher threw two-thirds scoreless, but threw the wild pitch that allowed the Braves to score the go-ahead run in the eighth.

The Braves and BayBears will play game three of this five-game series Saturday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05. Mississippi will send lefty Kelvin Villa to the hill while Mobile will counter with righty Max Scherzer. Saturday night is Fan Appreciation Night at Trustmark Park and the M-Braves will give away thousands of dollars worth of prizes to show the fans how much they are appreciated.
