Mobile BayBears News Release

PEARL, MS - For the second straight night, the BayBears scored just one run and lost. Friday the BayBears were beaten by Mississippi 2-1, in the shortest game (by minutes) this season, finishing at two hours and six minutes. The BayBears had a strong start by Esmerling Vasquez (10-6), who pitched into the eighth inning for the first time this year, allowing two runs in 7.1 innings.

Mississippi starter Ryan Baerlocher pitched seven innings in a no decision, allowing just one run. The BayBears had scored a combined 12 runs against Baerlocher in his two starts against Mobile, but the only run the BayBears had off him Friday was a sacrifice fly by Javier Brito.

The Braves scored the first of their two runs on an RBI double by Van Pope in the fifth inning. The game-tying hit was contested by BayBears Interim Manager Matt Williams, after BayBear players thought the ball bounced up against the center field batters eye for a double, which would have held the scoring runner at third base. Mississippi's second run scored on a wild pitch by Clint Goocher, on an attempted squeeze play by the Braves in the eighth.

The BayBears have now lost three straight games, and sit one game above .500 thissseason, with a 69-68 overall record. Wes Wilkerson (1-2) was the winning pitcher for the Braves, pitching a scoreless eighth inning for Mississippi.

The BayBears and Braves play again Saturday at 7:05 PM, with Mobile RHP Max Scherzer (4-3) starting against Mississippi LHP Kelvin Villa (8-11).
