Jacksonville, Fla. - Chris Nowak drove in four runs including a three-run homerun helping the Montgomery Biscuits (78-58, 43-23) to a 6-3 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (79-57, 38-28) Friday night in front of 10,438 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, clinching the second half South Division Championship for Montgomery.

The Biscuits will visit the Mississippi Braves to start the best-of-five South Division Championship Series Thursday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss.

Montgomery broke out right away in the first inning against Suns starter Clayton Kershaw when Chris Nowak belted a two-out, three-run homerun to open a 3-0 lead. The runs were unearned for Kershaw as a single and error were followed by two strikeouts before the homerun.

Nowak continued his assault on Kershaw in the third inning when he belted an RBI triple into right-centerfield for a 4-0 Montgomery lead.

The Biscuits capped off their scoring against the Suns starter in the fourth inning with a Josh Asanovich solo homerun followed later by a Reid Brignac sacrifice fly for a 6-0 lead.

Kershaw left the game after three and one-thirds innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Suns rallied in the sixth inning, finally breaking through against Montgomery starter Wade Davis. Alberto Concepcion singled home Kevin Howard, cutting the Montgomery lead to 6-1. After Davis later loaded the bases with a two-out walk, Evan Meek entered from the Montgomery bullpen. The right-hander walked the next two Suns batters to drive home two runs and make it 6-3. With the bases loaded and two out, Blake DeWitt grounded out to end any more scoring.

Jacksonville seemed unable to take advantage of baserunners in the next two innings. With two on and one out in the seventh inning Alberto Concepcion grounded into a double play to end the threat. In the eighth inning the Suns loaded the bases with one out, but Montgomery reliever Tim Corcoran struck out the next two men to end another threat.

Corcoran dealt a perfect ninth for Montgomery while preserving the Biscuits victory.

The Suns left 12 runners in scoring position, including five in the last four innings.

Wade Davis (7-3) picked up the win for Montgomery while Clayton Kershaw (1-2) fell in the loss. Tim Corcoran (3) saved the game.

The Biscuits and Suns will play a Saturday day-night doubleheader with first pitches at 2:05 and 7:05 p.m. Fans will need two tickets to attend both games. The first 3,000 into the second game will receive a 1967 Nolan Ryan bobblehead. Tickets are available at 904.358.2846 or by visiting jaxsuns.com.
