Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â The Suns gave up six runs in the final three innings in a 7-2 loss to the Greenville Braves on Saturday in front of 7,669 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Although the Suns never led, it was the bullpen that increased the team's deficit. In the seventh inning with runners on first and second with one out, reliever Lino Urdaneta relieved starter Joel Hanrahan, trailing 1-0. Urdaneta allowed two singles in succession, followed by an intentional walk, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly before ending the inning. The Braves (35-31) scored four times in the seventh and then added two more in the ninth off reliever Jason Frasor.
"Joel didn't have his best stuff tonight, but he kept us in the ballgame," Suns manager Dino Ebel said. "That's the kind of competitor Joel is. Even when he's not locating his pitches well, he still gets the job done.
Hanrahan (6-3) earned the loss, pitching 6-1/3 innings and being credited with allowing three earned runs. He had allowed three or more earned runs once in his prior 13 starts.
The Suns (30-37) showed resilience in the later innings. In the eighth inning with runners at first and second, facing reliever Joe Winkelsas, Suns pinch-hitter Tarrik Brock singled home Reggie Abercrombie with two outs. Daryle Ward was thrown out trying to advance to third, ending the inning.
Winklesas allowed singles to the first three Suns to bat in the ninth. Gookie Dawkins lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Nick Alvarez. Mike Collins singled to re-load the bases, but Shane Victorino grounded into a game-ending double play.
Victorino had two hits to lead the Suns.
Braves starter Matt Belisle (4-6) stymied Jacksonville hitters, allowing five hits and one walk in 7-2/3 innings. The eighth inning run inherited by Winklesas was credited to Belisle.
Bryce Terveen had three hits to pace Greenville.
Right-hander Tommy Farmer (4-5, 4.12 ERA) is scheduled to face Braves righty Bubba Nelson (5-5, 3.56) at 3:05 p.m. Sunday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
