Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – Orlando Rays' first baseman Dan Grummitt blasted two homeruns, accounting for all five Orlando runs as the Rays defeated the Mobile BayBears for the second straight night, 5-1, in front of 5,723 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

BayBears' starter Roger Deago had his worst outing of the season. Deago (4-4) walked seven batters, allowing five runs on just three hits. The left-hander walked three batters in the first inning before Grummitt smashed a grand slam over the wall in left. Deago would settle down after that, but the damage was done.

Orlando's starter Jon Switzer had the BayBears guessing all night. Switzer (5-6) threw seven strong frames, giving up just one run on three hits while striking out three.

The BayBears' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jake Gautreau walked and crossed the plate on Jon Benick's two-out double. The RBI was the first for Benick since being promoted from Lake Elsinore on June 9th.

Leading 4-1, Grummitt added his second homerun of the game in the eighth. Grummitt's eighth homer of the season was a solo shot to right off of BayBears' reliever Bryan Gaal.

Game three of the series will be Sunday night at 7:05. RHP Steve Watkins (4-4; 4.79) will get the start for Mobile against Orlando's RHP Jim Magrane (6-3; 4.14).

Once again, kids are invited to bring their dads on the field to play catch from 6-6:30, as the BayBears celebrate Father's Day at Hank Aaron Stadium.
