Braves Complete Sweep with 2-1 Win

July 24, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

The International League South Division opponent has found a home at Coca-Cola Field at the expense of the Bisons in recent years. This weekend was more of the same as the Braves capped off a four-game sweep of the Herd with a 2-1 victory in front of 9,214 on Sunday afternoon.

The last time the Bisons beat Gwinnet at home was June 17, 2013. Since then, 13 straight contests have gone the Braves way.

On Sunday, it was a two-run fourth inning that gave Gwinnett the pair of runs it would need for victory. Former Bisons infielder Sean Kazmar greeted reliever Wilmer Font with a two-run single to centerfield to plate Hector Olivera and Rio Ruiz.

Both runners had reached against starter Scott Copeland, who re-signed with Toronto this week after a three-month stint in the Korea Baseball Organization. Copeland was on the Bisons Opening Day roster but asked for his release so he could sign with the LG Twins of the KBO. He yielded five hits in three-plus innings in his return to the Herd's rotation.

Darrell Ceciliani accounted for the Bisons' lone run in the eighth inning with his sixth homer of the season.

Jose Bautista went 0-4 in his third MLB injury rehab game, bouncing into a pair of 5-4-3 doubleplays.

BISONS NOTES: Aaron Loup returned to the Bisons after being optioned by Toronto on Friday. He tossed an inning of scoreless relief, getting two grounders and a foul out...Bobby Korecky was placed on the disabled list prior to the game...Domonic Brown had a single in four trips to the plate to extend his hit streak to 10 games. He's reached base safely in 36 of his last 39 games.
