Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER - The Worcester Bravehearts couldn't seem to get out of their own way in a 7-4 loss to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Thursday night, July 16 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
The Bravehearts committed seven errors total, and after taking a 4-3 lead into the 8th inning gave up four unearned runs on five errors. Worcester reliever Nick Freijomil (LIU Brooklyn / Franklinville, New Jersey) took the loss, as he was responsible for the game-tying and go-ahead runs, which were both unearned.
Wachusett took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 5th with a 2-RBI triple by center fielder Max DiTondo (Franklin Pierce / Marshfield, Connecticut) and a sacrifice fly by left fielder Kurtis White (Franklin Pierce / Nahant).
However, Worcester countered with three runs of its own in the 6th thanks to a throwing error by Dirt Dawgs first baseman Justin Silvestro (Wheaton / Waltham) to score third baseman Mike Coggeshall (Assumption / Shrewsbury). Right fielder Charlie Ameer (Cochise / Weston, Connecticut) followed up with a 2-RBI double to tie the game.
With two on and two out in the 7th inning, catcher TJ Riccio (New Haven / Port Jefferson Station, New York) hit an RBI single to give Worcester its only lead of the game.
Dirt Dawgs pitcher Matt Cronin (UMass Dartmouth / Framingham) got his fifth save of the season by collecting the final six outs of the game. Pitcher James Batton (University of Texas at Tyler / Arlington, Texas) was credited with the win to improve to 2-0 this season.
The Worcester Bravehearts will host the Bristol Blues at 7:05 p.m. Friday night, July 17 at Hanover Insurance Park for Healthy Living Night and Fireworks presented by Reliant Medical Group.
