Willmar Stingers News Release
Kyle Perry's second-inning grand slam propelled the Stingers past Thunder Bay in front of more than 1,300 fans Wednesday at Bill Taunton Stadium. The 7-1 victory was fueled by new bats and familiar pitching.
Steven Brault earned the nod from Coach Matt Hollod and dazzled fans with five innings of no-hit baseball. Brault built on his success with Willmar from 2012, earning the win after pitching six innings, striking out eight batters, and permitting only four runners.
Newcomers Perry and Marc Flores accounted for all six of the Stingers hits, notching three apiece; and, as if to remain symmetrical, they each finished with a single, double and homerun.
Flores' homerun in the 7th inning came after Thunder Bay logged their sole run of the contest. The no-doubter sailed over the left field fence and the Stingers never looked back.
The Stingers (1-0) will play at home again Thursday and Friday.
