
Woodchucks Use Five-Run First to Defeat Bullfrogs 6-4

Green Bay - May 30, 2013 - The Wisconsin Woodchucks used a five-run first inning to endure a comeback attempt by the Green Bay Bullfrogs and improve to 1-0 on the 2013 season.
In that five-run fist, the "ÃËChucks took advantage of an error by the Bullfrogs to, adding four hits, including an RBI single off the bat of Madison Carter. Woodchuck starter Zach Rengel was effective on the mound in his Northwoods League debut. Rengel went 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Rengel's only mistake came on a two-run home run to Bullfrog designated hitter Jose Godinez in the second inning.
After struggling in the first, Duke was outstanding for the rest of the night. He would go four additional innings, allowing only one more base-runner on an error by first baseman Tripp Martin. Duke's final line was five innings, four hits, three earned runs and a strikeout.
The Bullfrogs would pull to within two runs in the fifth inning. After Rengel exited, Wausau native Ryan Zweck allowed a base hit to Martin that scored Robert Youngdahl to make it 5-3. They would inch closer with another run in the eighth off of Aaron Fossas. With runners on the corners and one out, Godinez dumped a single into right to bring home Martin and make it 5-4. After the Woodchucks added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, Jackson Lowery would come on for the save. Lowery recorded two strikeouts and picked up his seventh career Northwoods League save to send the Woodchucks to 1-0 on the season.
The Woodchucks will be back in action tomorrow night at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
